BOOKS

There is nothing like a book from a library or bookstore to help you absorb information.  There is something about holding onto a physical book instead of reading on a phone or tablet, as old fashioned as it is, that's just easier. But if you like reading on your phone or tablet go for it.  There are general books on abuse as well as books specific for what you are going through.  I find I can learn a lot just by reading the reviews online.  Visit your local library or peruse your nearest used book store to get started.

Video Platforms

Youtube, Vimeo, there are a few of them.  These platforms are amazing ways to learn.  I have a playlist that I let run when I'm driving.  Look up videos about general abuse, specific kinds of abuse, how to get out of the abuse, there are a ton of videos where women who have gotten out are interviewed.  All of these videos are gold.  You can learn #1 you are not alone, what worked for others, what steps to take to get out, how to survive when you do leave, what to do if you have children, things to watch out for that you haven't thought about.  The list goes on.  Educating yourself about abuse is one of the best things you can do when you start to formulate your plan.

Online Support Groups

There are many online support groups, finding the right one for you can be a challenge.  Most of them seem to be for people who are suffering from addictions, mental health issues, etc and not for those who are being affected by those behaviors. Most of the sites I found were by professionals, which have their place, but being tied down to a place and time for their sessions can be a challenge.  Even when looking for a simple online chat group can be a challenge.
