The Basha Kill

Updated: May 3, 2023

Great Blue Heron in the Basha Kill

The Basha Kill is a large area with a slow moving river located in Sullivan County, NY near Wurtsboro. It has tons of wildlife including Bald Eagles. It is an amazing place to kayak for a few hours. It has multiple access points and is a quiet and relaxing place to be for a morning or afternoon. It also has many hiking and biking trails if you prefer. Check out their website for more information.

My friend and I put our kayaks in at the access point across from the Bashakill Vineyards. It has a porta potty and plenty of parking. Hiking trail access is also here.

It was the perfect day for a paddle! Nary a cloud in the sky.

Tons of flora

This little guy hitched a ride for at least 5 minutes

Relaxing!

Bald Eagle's nest. This thing is huge!

So many people enjoy this natural area, it's a favorite stop of mine whether to hike, bike or kayak. If you are in the area please take advantage of it even for a short visit.

What I'm drinking:

Right across the street from the kayak access point we used is the Bashakill Vineyards. How convenient is that? There are so many wineries in the area but this one happens to be right there! You don't even have to get in your car to get there, just walk across the road. After your hike or kayaking go across the street and taste some wine. Check their website to make sure they are open. Bottoms up!
