Revolution Rail Co.

Have you ever biked on a railroad? You can! There's a company that has put together special 'bikes' than can go on a railroad track. Revolution has setups in three states. I went to the one in North Creek, NY. The rail trip is either 6 or 7.5 miles long. The 'cars' can hold 2 to 4 people. Tip: the more people you have the easier it is to pedal. The incline is very gentle but if you're not used to pedaling from a reclined position and you have the pressure of keeping up with the people in front of you, try to get 3 other people to go with you. It's a lot of fun and the scenery is beautiful.

We met at the old rail station in North Creek. We checked in and boarded a bus to take us a few miles up the road. When we got there we were assigned a 'car', waited for everyone to get settled and started on our way! The time went quickly. When you're having fun you don't realize how far you've pedaled!

We pedaled through some deep woods, then crossed over the Hudson River. The river is so different up in the Adirondacks than it is in the New York City area! After going a little bit farther we can to the end of the line. We all got off our bike/cars and relaxed in a little picnic area while the crew turned all the cars around on a little turn table.

When all the cars were turned around it was time to head back. It was a little easier since it was a slight downhill trip this time. We all stopped on the bridge over the Hudson and we got our picture taken - each car got their turn. The whole trip lasted about two hours. A fun and different way to experience the Adirondacks and the North Creek area!

This trip is available in NY, NJ and CO. For more information go to their website here.

Happy pedaling!
